The Social Credit System is a proposed Chinese government initiative for developing a national reputation system.
It has been reported to be intended to assign a "social credit" rating to every citizen based on government data regarding their economic and social status.
Xinhuanet has reported that the plan for the system focuses on credit in four areas, including: • Administrative affairs • Social behavior • Commercial activities • The judicial system
As of September 2016, this system does not yet exist, and very little firm information is available about how this system might work in practice. Some reports have stated that the ratings may use information gathered from Chinese citizens' online behavior.

Most people arriving here will assume I am a Christian or at least a theist. I am not. I am also not an agnostic.
To be an agnostic is to be a doubter. But to doubt you must have a certain amount of information.
A computer with insufficient data is not agnostic, for instance. A computer does not doubt, it reserves judgment. It refuses to give a conclusion when a conclusion is not in the numbers.
Now, humans are not computers. I am not a materialist and not reductive, so I would never make that argument. I am only making a loose analogy here.
I do not even call myself a skeptic, since the word has been polluted by modern use.
A modern skeptic is like an agnostic, and he or she is likely to lean to a “no” answer every time. Are there gods? Probably not. Are there unicorns? Probably not. Is there a Bigfoot? Probably not. And so on.
I resist this “skeptic” tag because leaning toward a “no” answer is a prejudice itself. It is unscientific.

The title is, “The Case against Reality”. Hoffman and the editors at The Atlantic want to convince you the reality you believe in doesn't really exist. OK. So I guess that means Hoffman may or may not be a professor of cognitive science. He may just be a CIA agent posing as a professor of cognitive science, a sim, or some photo they pulled out of the files. And we can say the same of The Atlantic. It may not even be a magazine anymore. Maybe it is just a CIA front, a computer hack, or a vicious hologram.

"Entropy" is one of those scientific words, along with "relativity", "infinity", and "field", that has acquired an extraordinary amount of baggage since its initial defining.
So many non-scientific and pseudo-scientific concepts have been attached to it that it would be almost unrecognizable to the early pioneers of heat theory.
In the beginning, entropy was just defined as a relation between heat and temperature, using the equation dE = dQ/T.
That is, it was mainly a measurement of heat change.
It is a fancy way of saying that heat always dissipates, or moves from a hot region to a cold region.
On the molecular level, this is just to say that motion tends to dissipate — since heat is molecular motion.
And this in turn is just a fancy way of saying that molecules tend to move from where they are to where they aren’t.
Not a deeply philosophical issue.
It is straight statistics. Molecules move into cooler areas because cooler areas have more space.
Statistically, they are more likely to go there simply because there are more potential pathways.

Why Great Minds Can't Grasp Consciousness
At a physics meeting last October , Nobel laureate David Gross outlined 25 questions in science that he thought physics might help answer. One of the Gross's questions involved human consciousness.
He wondered whether scientists would ever be able to measure the onset consciousness in infants and speculated that consciousness might be similar to what physicists call a "phase transition," an abrupt and sudden large-scale transformation resulting from several microscopic changes. The emergence of superconductivity in certain metals when cooled below a critical temperature is an example of a phase transition.
In a recent email interview, Gross said he figures there are probably many different levels of consciousness, but he believes that language is a crucial factor distinguishing the human variety from that of animals.

Brain Systems — Gurdjieff’s Concept of Centers in a Man

This paper discusses the ideas concerning centers and consciousness presented in both P. Ouspensky’s work, The Psychology of Man’s Possible Evolution and lectures by Mr. Gurdjieff reported by Ouspensky in his books, In Search of the Miraculous and The Fourth Way.
The concept of centers, the field of attention and the wrong work of centers must be understood as a foundation to self-observation.
There will be no apology for starting simply in presenting this subject. The information in this series of papers on centers, while not painfully difficult to grasp, may seem quite alien even to the well read student of The Fourth Way.
As this more complete model of the idea of centers began to take form, it became clear that some additional structures of a similar nature would be required to fully explain a more complete environment of its working process to these bothersome students.
New concepts were added as they seemed to place themselves into the status of conceptual necessities.

Chapter 3 ♦ Conditioning
The third chapter leads off asking about a child's right to privacy and freedom from parental conditioning. Osho seems to believe that this question is a "fundamental problem facing humanity today".
He then asserts that the "future depends upon how we solve it." A rhetorical answer to a rhetorical question, however Osho seems to believe this question has never been asked in times past.
The greatest slaveryis that of the child.
■ The claim that "man has come of age," may or may not be true.■ The maturity to face new problems he sees as inherent in man's coming of age has yet to be proven.
Leading the second paragraph, Osho makes the observation:
Slowly, slowly, as man progressed, he became aware of many kinds of slavery. Only recently in the West have we become aware that the greatest slavery is that of the child.
This situation, unknown in the past, now because "psychological insight has deepened into the human mind and its functioning." we are for the first time, able to discern this rather obvious condition of childhood.
Due to this recent psychological understanding, now:
. . . it has become absolutely clear that the child is the most exploited person; nobody has been exploited more than the child.

Disinformation and UFOs

A couple of days ago, I posted How I began "the Work". Today, I was thinking about that title, and the fact that few people would have any idea as to what "the Work" is and means. So, I set about looking for a web page that I could copy which provided a brief and easy to understand definition of what exactly the Work is.
I browsed at least 20 web pages, but did not find what I was looking for. What I see is a repeat of the basic definition as quoted below from The Gurdjieff Foundation:
The Gurdjieff work remains above all essentially an oral tradition, transmitted under specially created conditions from person to person, continually unfolding, without fixed doctrinal beliefs or external rites, as a way toward freeing humanity from the waking sleep that holds us in a kind of hypnotic illusion.– The Gurdjieff Work Today
To me, that is "The Gurdjieff Work from 1930" and has little relevance to my personal involvement in what I call "the Work." What is the Work?

Gurdjieff strongly condemned masturbation, contraception and homosexuality as affronts to the proper order of nature. (LINK) I guess that helps to explain why he was a prolific unconscious procreater. I give that label to Gurdjieff not to diminish his contribution to the collective wisdom, but to merely point out his normalcy bias (ostrich effect). Much has been written about what "the Work" is (see here, here, and here). My intention is not to restate that which has been well defined.
I've been trying to come up with a suitable allegory for the Work, and what first came to mind is an automobile factory in which new cars are manufactured (new-born human beings), but soon after being driven off the assembly line the air filter is removed, the tires are slashed, it's then run on the rims and crashed into a concrete wall, and finally gasoline is poured inside and ignited. The car is somehow driven for 20 or 30 years, and only then taken to a repair shop (the Work).

It undoubtedly was a release of previously hidden information, but was it done in order to prevent a greater exposure of more important details? If so what are the missing details?
Could there possibly be missing information that is even more important for a seeker to understand than the fundamental concepts of self-remembering, identification, unnecessary talk and negative emotions?

On defining Unconscious Procreation
Borrowing from Justice Stewart's opinion on Pornography, the easy answer has always been…
“It's difficult to define, but I Know It When I See It”
The War Zone presents a simple definition of the phrase: Unconscious Procreation.
The phrase "I know it when I see it" is a colloquial expression by which a speaker attempts to categorize an observable fact or event, although the category is subjective or lacks clearly defined parameters. The phrase was famously used in 1964 by United States Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart to describe his threshold test for obscenity in Jacobellis v. Ohio. In explaining why the material at issue in the case was not obscene under the Roth test, and therefore was protected speech that could not be censored, Stewart wrote:
“I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description ["hard-core pornography"], and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it, and the motion picture involved in this case is not that.”
The expression became one of the most famous phrases in the entire history of the Supreme Court.

The War on Children
